BTEC Qualifications

Welcome from the Head of Senior School

International Baccalaureate IB World Schools TimWelcome to the Sixth Form at Kent College Dubai. We are one of the best British Curriculum and Top IB Schools in Dubai, and as such, the Sixth Form (year 12 and 13) represents the pinnacle of your school career with us. Our Sixth Formers play an integral role in the school – they are seen as role models, and their leading by example sets the tone for what makes our school so unique: we believe in a whole-student education, and so as much as a strong academic program is at the heart of Sixth Form life, our offering extends far beyond academics. We have a wide offering of Extracurricular Activities (ECAs) that enable students to develop skills that build character, build confidence, help them to practice leadership skills, and will ultimately make them future-ready and world-ready.

Kent College Dubai unlocks the individual potential in each and every child. We provide performance guidance and pathways that are as unique as the pupils that attend this school. By the time pupils graduate from Kent, they are internationally-minded adults that see themselves as global citizens. They are confident in their opinions, have the courage to stand by their convictions, hold previous generations accountable for their actions, and are confident to be catalysts for change into the future. KCD students know that they hold the future in their hands, and they do not shy away from the weight of this responsibility, because they know that they are equipped with all that’s required for life in an ever-changing world; they are inquirers, principled, open-minded, risk-takers, knowledgeable, thinkers that are caring and balanced.

Kent College Dubai is a leading provider of a wide range of graduation pathways; from British A levels and BTEC vocational qualifications to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). We know that every student learns in a different way, and we believe that offering these multiple pathways allows each student the opportunity to challenge their individual strengths and abilities in the way that suits them best.

BTEC:  Business and Technology Education Council

BTECs are specialist work-related qualifications that are equivalent to 2 A Levels. With a track record built over 40 years of learner success, BTEC International Level 3 qualifications are recognised internationally by governments, industry and higher education institutions.

BTEC qualifications encompass applied learning that brings together knowledge and understanding with practical and technical skills. This applied learning is achieved through learners performing vocational tasks that encourage the development of vocational behaviours and transferable skills, such as communication, teamwork and research and analysis, which are valued in both higher education and the workplace. Opportunities to develop these skills are embedded throughout the course.

Assessment includes a range of assessment types and styles suited to vocational qualifications in the sector. All assessment is internal (therefore there are no formal exams) but some mandatory units have extra controls on assessment and are assessed using Pearson Set Assignments. Additionally, some units are synoptic.

BTEC in Performing Arts

The course offers students with the passion, tenacity and ambition to complete their first step to train to be a leading, high quality professional performer, teacher or creative. For those who want to pursue a career in what is one of the fastest growing global industries.

The course has been designed by leading providers who have the experience in preparing students for the entertainment industry. All practical delivery will be overseen by Urdang Academy to ensure that students in Dubai receive a similar standard of world class delivery as the flagship colleges in London.

This full-time course is designed as a stepping stone for 16 to 18 year old students to study at a specialist three year vocational training course, Conservatoire or University Degree programme. Delivered by leading industry professionals, the course content commands a high level of talent in either singing, acting or dance. The course itself will give the student the opportunity to bring all three skill areas up to a competitive standard no matter what level the weaker areas are. We aim to nurture an all rounded performer who is prepared for auditions or application to their next stage of training or education.

Course Content

The majority of time will be spent working on practical skills in studios. Alongside the plethora of these practical skill classes, the course is underpinned by relevant industry knowledge through a solid academic base. The student can achieve the equivalent of three A’ levels through the Extended BTEC Diploma. Alternatively, they can select to complete the smaller BTEC Diploma (equivalent of two A’ levels) and take another A’ level subject alongside the course. The course will give an insight into the different roles and transitional skills that can be gained with training in performing arts. It supports learning on how the industry works globally, how to promote yourself, entrepreneurial visions within arts and guide  future training pathways.
